June 2002 Archives

June 29, 2002

Woke up quite early, feeling well rested. Started the massive job of unpacking and fitting everything in. Headed off around lunchtime to pick up some necessary homewares. Still heaps more to do, so photos will be a little way off.
So the new details:

Royce Michael Lee & Laura Good
604/3 Kings Cross Road
Rushcutters Bay NSW 2011

Our new phone number is (02) 9357 7474.

Actually the suburb is quite confusing - the original Architect's plans have us in Kings Cross, EnergyAustralia say Potts Point, AGL (the gas company) reckon Darlinghurst, and if I stick my arm out over the balcony, it is pretty much in Paddington. We decided to use the address written on the wall in the reception of the building: Rushcutters Bay (although it is curious that the lifts in the building all say Kings Cross). Yes, my head is spinning!

Today's the big move day - removalist arrives at 7:00am, final inspection of the old apartment at 4:30pm, with heaps of packing and cleaning in the middle. When we finally got home to our new place we half emptied the car, went upstairs and showered, then walked to Darlinghurst for dinner. We were both pretty tired so went to bed very early indeed!

June 10, 2002

It was another great day so took the opportunity take Laura and head out on the bike. Originally thought about heading South, then went North, turned around to head South again, but ended up going West. I spotted one of those brown "tourist attraction" signs that Laura loves so followed that for a bit. We were heading North again (I swear I thought I was still heading West) and actually ended up further North but somewhat more inland than Gosford. I'd heard of Dural before, but the rest of the suburbs we passed through (Glenorie, Maroota etc) on the way to the Hawkesbury River were completely new to me. Had lunch and a petrol stop at Wisemans Ferry. Something of a favourite for biker's, there were quite a few there by the time we made it to the pub.

June 9, 2002

The day was beautiful, so we went back to Rushcutters Bay to get some externals of the building. Looked at some more furniture ideas, then went and saw the movie Spider-man.

June 8, 2002

For about the first time in I don't know how long, I really didn't care about what was happening in the property world today. OK, I still cared - but I wasn't obsessive about it like I usually am. Started looking at some ideas for furniture and went and had another inspection / measure up of the apartment. It was a pretty gloomy day, so we didn't take any pictures of outside.

June 7, 2002

Commenced the exchange of documents for our new place at Rushcutters Bay. Ok, it's small, has no car space, costs lots of money, interest rates are going up, prices are predicted to come down...... but you know what? It'll be *our* place.

Hope to move in by June 28.

June 6, 2002

One of the apartments that we have been looking closely at went to auction last night. It was advertised at "around $400k", so we were mightily surprised when it sold for $535k. You have to ask how did the agent get it so wrong.

June 1, 2002

Should've spent the day packing the rest of our things and moving into a new premises. We didn't, so now I presume we're off to the Residential Tribunal.

Spent most of the afternoon driving around the Eastern suburbs, stopping for coffee in Darlinghurst. Saw a crappy apartment at King Street Wharf - didn't stay long.
